Upon arrival by the ferry to the Suomenlinna island you will have the walking guided tour around Suomenlinna fortress to get to know the fascinating story behind the World Heritage Site of UNESCO. After the tour, you will enjoy 2 hours exclusive sailing by 18th-century cannon sloop (newly built at 2014) around Suomenlinna fortress. You will feel the unique sea voyages with an old vessel and a sense of history in an interesting and exciting way. The crew in 18th-century costumes enlivens the journey on board. The vessel moves by means of sailing or rowing, as well as with a motor.
Your tour will start from Kauppatori ferry terminal. After 15min you will arrive at the Suomenlinna island, where you will start the walking tour with the local professional guide.
During 1 hour the guided walking tour an authorized guide tells about the 260 years of eventful history of Suomenlinna under the rule of three different states as well as the life on the island today. The guide will take you to the most important sights of the fortress, such as the Great Castle Courtyard, Piper’s Park and the Dry Dock, which in its days was among the largest in the world.
After the walking tour, it is time to take sailing by 18th-century cannon sloop around Suomenlinna fortress. The new cannon sloop is based on the drawings prepared by Ship Architect Fredrik Henrik af Chapman and old document sources of the Swedish fleet’s drawings office. The ship was built using traditional building materials and construction methods at Suomenlinna’s shipyard, which operated until 1808 as the Swedish archipelago fleet’s Viapori naval squadron base. Nowadays the shipyard operates as a traditional vessel center, where culture-historically valuable vessels are renovated and restored.
During the sailing, you will see the fortress from the sea and hear about the fascinating history of the archipelago fleet. The public can choose to assist in raising and lowering the sails, and a few brave ones can join in with the rowing. The journey is enlivened by Admiral Chapman and his crew.

Cannon sloop is an open boat, so dressing according to weather conditions is important. Due to the wind, it may be cold at sea even on a warm day. It is good to have a warm and relaxed casual outfit, as well as flat shoes, with you. In case of rain, it is good to bring a raincoat. It is also worth taking a bottle of water with you.
Children can participate only whit an adult.
