Additional costs include rooms with private facilities or 2-room apartments. The structure insists on the Tornio river, and is equipped with two restaurants, in one of which we will make a dinner of barbecued whitefish, the specialty of the place. Day 2: FISHERMEN AND LAPPIAN TRADITIONS

Stop At: Kukkolaforsen, Haparanda, Norrbotten County
Breakfast in the apartment (self-catering). Transfer (about 10 minutes) by barge to Kukkolaforsen, on the Swedish shore, where there is an ancient fishing village, perfectly preserved in its historical part. Here you can learn all about the ancient traditions of the area, and understand how it was possible for man to colonize these cold and inhospitable lands for centuries. Kukkola is the place where the Italian explorer Giuseppe Acerbi experienced the sauna ritual, which he was the first to describe outside these areas. The international use of the term sauna, the only Finnish word known in the world, is largely due to him. You can have a sauna in the same place where the locals socialize at 100 degrees Celsius! We will also visit the old houses of the village, some of which date back to the eighteenth century. Typical fish dinner served in the sauna, and return to Kukkola for overnight stay.

The next stop is Juoksengi (20 min), a town crossed by the Arctic Circle. We will learn how the exact location of the Circle changes with cycles of 18.6 and 20000 years. For lunch, we will reach the Forest Jewel craft factory, where you can buy souvenirs. In the evening, we will arrive at Hulkoffgården (about 45 minutes), where we will be able to visit a real family-run farm, with an organic vegetable garden and cattle and reindeer husbandry.
